About Proprio Swimming
Kia ora, I’m Toy, an Advanced SwimMastery Coach and the founder of Proprio Swimming. I learned to swim as an adult and like many late‑onset swimmers, my journey had its share of frustrations. A shoulder injury held me back, and I couldn’t understand how others seemed to glide through the water with such ease. This sparked my curiosity about what makes swimming feel effortless. Through SwimMastery, I discovered the power of correct joint mechanics – to prevent injuries, reduce drag, create forward momentum, improve balance, and proprioception. This approach reshaped my own swimming and inspired the creation of Proprio Swimming.
“Proprio” comes from proprioception—our sense of where our body is in space. In water, this awareness becomes even more important, especially for late-onset swimmers. As my own proprioception improved, I finally understood a key secret behind effortless swimming. By helping adults improve their proprioception, to learn by feeling, I help swimmers develop that same body awareness so they can swim with confidence, ease, and efficiency, and ultimately, a feeling of being at one with the water.
I bring a friendly, supportive coaching style and a strong understanding of the freestyle technique, with experience coaching both adult small groups and individuals. I enjoy working with swimmers from complete beginners to advanced athletes, and I’m supported by the global SwimMastery coaching community.
My goal is simple: to share what I’ve learned and help swimmers achieve their own breakthroughs.
